A self-clinching fastener for hidden lap joints

چکیده

This paper presents a new self-clinching fastener to connect two sheets (or plates), made from similar or dissimilar materials, placed over one another by means of mechanical form-closed joint that is hidden inside the sheets. The development fastener, definition its main design variables and identification workability limits are carried out combined experimental numerical simulation work based on finite elements. It shown pressing overlapped against each other displace material around annular groove shank create undercuts in both requires an appropriate choice variables. Wrong values resulting lack excess displaced plastic flow gives rise inappropriate lap joints cannot be used production. proposed allows, for first time ever, joining forming with use auxiliary elements harder than sheet materials fabricate invisible no protrusions applications requiring minimum installation space.

Mixed mode fatigue growth of curved cracks emanating from fastener holes in aircraft lap joints

The ®nite element alternating method is extended further for analyzing multiple arbitrarily curved cracks in an isotropic plate under plane stress loading. The required analytical solution for an arbitrarily curved crack in an in®nite isotropic plate is obtained by solving the integral equations formulated by Cheung and Chen (1987a, b). With the proposed method several example problems are solv...

Fatigue behaviour of composite adhesive lap joints

This paper is concerned with a fatigue study of composite adhesive lap joints produced from a bi-directional woven E-glass fibres and polypropylene. The adhesive used was a Bostik 7452 (Rubber & Plastics Grade) ethyl cyanoacrylate type. The effects of layer orientation, lap joint length and water immersion on the fatigue behaviour were studied. The specimens were immersed in water during period...

Fatigue growth of multiple-cracks near a row of fastener-holes in a fuselage lap-joint

The fatigue growth of multiple cracks, of arbitrary lengths, emanating from a row of fastener holes in a bonded, riveted, lap joint in a pressurized aircraft fuselage is studied. The effects of residual stresses due to a rivet misfit, and of plastic deformation near the hole, are included. A Schwartz Neumann alternating method which uses the analytical solution for a row of multiple colinear cr...

Seam-Tracking for Friction Stir Welded Lap Joints

This article presents a method for automatic seam-tracking in friction stir welding (FSW) of lap joints. In this method, tracking is accomplished by weaving the FSW tool back-and-forth perpendicular to the direction of travel during welding and monitoring force and torque signals. Research demonstrates the ability of this method to automatically track weld seam positions. Additionally, tensile ...

Residual Strength Analyses of Riveted Lap-Splice Joints

Aging aircraft may develop multiple-site damage (MSD) that can reduce the structural integrity of fuselage structures. The existence of small cracks emanating from adjacent rivet holes in a fuselage lap-splice joint is of major concern. Small collinear cracks greatly reduce the residual strength of a panel with a lead crack. Recent studies predicting the residual strength of flat and curvilinea...
